A lot of historians actually believe that both twins were gay, which Hardy acknowledged in the interview and said it actually made it much harder to play the allegedly straight Reggie: “I think what was complicated was actually Reggie. One night in prison Reggie Kray revealed to Allardyce the crime that haunted him the most: the apparent suicide of his first wife. He died aged 1995 of a heart attack. However letters came to light in 2009 showing that there had indeed been a friendship between Ronnie and Boothby dating back at least to 1963.[1] The association between Conservative peer Robert Boothby and Ronnie Kray was the subject of an MI5 investigation [2].
Ronnie Kray was openly gay. She didn’t take any notice.
