In a nutshell
A domineering presence on the Austurvöllur square, the gay friendly Hotel Borg has become a landmark in its own right.
The relaxed and inviting rooms feature wood floors and rustic 4-poster beds, a breakfast buffet is offered for a fee and a cute, casual bar.
Black Pearl Apartment Hotel ☆☆☆☆☆
Since opening in 2013, Black Pearl has become the best apartment hotel accommodation in Reykjavik according to all major booking sites and has added a totally new dimension to hotel accommodation in Iceland.
Dynamic, animated and oh-so-fun, this nightclub boasts an expansive dance floor and strong drinks in fashionable surroundings. Yum! And if you arrive between 5 and 6pm, Sunday to Thursday, you can enjoy a drink at half price as part of their Happy Hour.
Once you’ve experienced all the benefits the Blue Lagoon has to offer, why not cap it all the work by tucking into a clean, healthy meal at the Lava Restaurant?
That means if you book something through one of those links, we'll get a small commission, at no extra cost to you. If you don’t see the aurora on this tour, you can do it again at no additional cost.
Cozy Campers
Hit the open road with Cozy Campers, Iceland’s queer-friendly campervan company that turns the island’s breathtaking landscapes into your own personal playground.
Amenities include TV, phone, free wifi, private bathroom and shower with toiletries included. It helps all youth become even more aware and open-minded than they already are as well as also showing just how gay friendly this awesome country truly is!
Iceland is tiny, with only 350,000 people living on the island.
Reykjavík Pride is, in fact, one of the biggest events in Iceland and probably “the biggest small Pride” in the world. Local art covers this lifestyle property; there is a 24-hour fitness center with cardio machines, weights and yoga mats, a coffee shop, bar and restaurant with expert chefs and locally inspired menus.
Hotel Holt ☆☆☆☆
An established and well-known luxury hotel in the heart of Reykjavik.
The staff was super friendly (and a few super cute!) They also served up authentic Italian Espressos and French croissants which made my Seby feel right at home.
Opening hours: daily from 10am to 6pm.
Located at: Vesturgata 2a.
Whilst there is only one gay club in Reykjavik, it more than makes up for it with its loud and proud presence, great dance music, and must-see drag shows.
Its mix of brown and gold décor, cozy seating, and hanging lanterns gives the place a hint of Gatsby aesthetic.
We recommend swinging by their daily Happy Hour between 3-6pm where they have a special menu on offer. It’s not quite a fancy bistro, but swankier than your ordinary pub grub. The upside is how the gay friendly spirit of Reykjavik has spread across all the bars, meaning queer people are welcome anywhere.
Strongly influenced by the Danish, if you're stopping in for lunch, we recommend having one of the sandwiches. It’s also not the type of place to go for a party. They also train their staff to thoroughly understand the production side of things, so that they can answer customer queries and develop a deep passion for the ultimate pick-me-up drink. Have an interest in coffee-making yourself?
Out-of-date information is rife, and for the most part, you will have to try your luck on the gay hook-up apps now – or in some of the swimming pools used by gay Icelanders or tourists.
The sauna at Vesturbaejarlaug, a small neighborhood pool located within walking distance of the city center, is often cited as a cruising space, but we didn’t have any luck when we visited and cannot recommend it.
Finding it hard to envisage where everything is Gay Reykjavik?
It’s relaxing, rejuvenating, and above all, freeing.
They have a range of rooms to suit travel groups of all sizes, whether you're traveling solo, in a couple, or with your gay mates.
We stayed in the sublime studio apartment on the top floor, which was popping with color and decorated with sleek, modern furnishings.
You’ll be on the lookout for minke whales, dolphins, porpoises and more. Start by sinking into the lagoon itself, surrounded by the North Atlantic Ocean.
Parking is free, which is perfect if you are planning a self-drive holiday, and there is an elegant restaurant with a wine cellar and cozy bar complete with fireplace and leather chairs to relax in after a long day.
Relaxed, cute, clean, affordable and in a fantastic location – what more could you want?
Kex Hostel ☆☆
A trendy and very social hostel in Reykjavik city center perfect for those wanting style and substance without breaking the budget.
